One of Jasmine Hairston’s favorite classes at SPU
taught her about the power of God’s breath to fill
people with the Holy Spirit. Jasmine has “respira,”
the Spanish verb “to breathe,” tattooed on her ribs as
a reminder, “because even in our very breath is God’s
spirit, and in the Holy Spirit is power, wisdom, and
sustenance.” Jasmine, a senior theology major, has
traveled to Mexico, Guatemala, and the Dominican
Republic and hopes to return someday as a pastor. In
the meantime, she is this year’s vice president of intercultural
affairs and wants to make reconciliation
and diversity part of the breath of campus life.
