Hey there! My name is Leah, and I’m a 2017 SPU Physiology grad and a second year medical student at the University of Washington. My interests in science, service, and medicine sprang up in high school, but it was the encouragement and support of SPU mentors that helped me truly envision myself as a future doctor. Looking back, the most valuable experiences from SPU were things that shaped my character and perspective on the world, not my resumé. I served as an SMC, volunteered, spent a summer at a community health clinic in Chicago, and studied abroad at a Ugandan university. I learned how broken and unjust our healthcare system is, but also found people fighting to change it. Now, my goal is to become a family medicine physician providing full spectrum, accessible care from addiction and mental health care to women’s health and delivering babies.
Finding the right career path and applying to medical school were scary, stressful, and confusing processes. My hope is that, as a mentor, I can help others navigate the process and provide tools to help them achieve their goals. Can't wait to hear from you!
