Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies are already central features of our daily lives. This will only increase in the coming years. Familiarity with these technologies and the ability to think carefully about the social benefits and potential harms they pose is an increasingly critical skill. The AI and Society program prepares students to enter a variety of fields with the tools to engage with, and help shape, the technological society of the future.
In the 2024–25 academic year, SPU will offer several “AI and Society” courses designed to increase students’ familiarity with these technologies and help them think carefully about the social benefits and potential harms they pose.
The AI and Society program is not a major, but the courses will prepare students to enter a variety of fields with the ability to engage with, and help shape, our emerging technological society.
Courses include “Living in a Digital World,” “Information and Attention,” and “Science, Technology, and Society.”
Advanced courses will also be offered in machine learning, data science, and AI.
