Our Mission

SPU Wellness contributes to student success by empowering the campus community to make healthy choices across the eight dimensions of wellness.

Our Vision

To build a healthy, informed, and proactive SPU community.

Values

Student-centered: Commit to keeping SPU students as a priority in the planning of programs and services, and all decisions we make.

Collaborative: Be creative with resources and seek ways to collaborate with campus and community partners to offer comprehensive programs and services with highly qualified and experienced staff.

Inclusive: Foster and open and inclusive campus community that welcomes and benefits people of diverse backgrounds, encourages the exchange of ideas from diverse perspectives, and provides meaningful access to facilities and programming.

Integrative. Promote a holistic and integrated wellness philosophy that is intentional and flexible based upon student health concerns, including, but not limited to stress, sleep, anxiety, substance use/abuse, sexual and relationship violence, sexual health, nutrition, finances and spirituality.

Choose well. Do well. Be well.

Emotional

Emotional wellness is defined as an awareness and acceptance of a wide range of feelings in yourself and others. It is the ability to understand, manage, and express your feelings in a healthy and constructive way; to understand your own limitations, and know how and when to seek support to address areas of concern. An emotionally well person has the ability to successfully handle life’s stresses, to adapt to and cope with change, and to learn and grow from difficult situations.
