On-Campus Housing Accommodations

Disability-related housing accommodations provide access for students in their on-campus residential experience. Students requesting housing accommodations will need to meet with Disability Support Services and provide documentation supporting their request and disability-related needs. Please see Documentation Guidelines to ensure you have proper documentation for your request.

Accommodations for housing are approved on a case by case basis and are dependent on the nature of the disability and/or health condition and the reasonability of the request. Disability Support Services works in partnership with Office of Housing Services and Residence Life to provide accommodations that meet individual student needs.

Once housing accommodations are approved, Disability Support Services requests that the Office of Housing Services and Residence Life place the student in a room that reasonably fulfills the accommodation needs of that student. We cannot guarantee specific placement in a particular residence hall building or room as an accommodation.

Single room requests are not granted solely based on a need for quiet study space. Residence halls are designed as community living spaces. Students who need quiet environments for study should seek other places on campus that are designated as quiet study areas.

Current Students

• Students currently receiving housing accommodations for disability-based needs should notify Disability Support Services staff of a request to continue accessing the same accommodation in the next academic year during the room selection process, and no later than April 1.
• Students who want to request a new accommodation or make changes to their current accommodations will need to provide new documentation of their disability and need for change.   After submitting documentation, students will be asked to make an appointment to discuss their needs with Disabilities Support Services staff.
• All returning student’s accommodation requests and any required documents must be submitted to Disability Support Services no later than April 1.

New Students

Students who are new to Seattle Pacific University and applying for housing accommodation should contact Disability Support Services immediately upon submitting their housing application no later than June 1. Please note: information provided to Disability Support Services will only be shared with other relevant staff in a discreet and confidential manner and will be used only as permitted under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This information will have no bearing on students' general eligibility for housing.

Summary of important deadlines for housing accommodations

• Returning students: Requests for housing accommodations must be received by Disability Support by April 1 for Autumn Quarter housing accommodations. 
• New students: To have appropriate accommodations available, new students must contact Disability Support Services by June 1 for Autumn Quarter housing accommodation requests.
• Missed deadlines will significantly limit the ability of Disability Support Services staff to respond to requests for accommodations.
• Mid-year housing requests: Students wishing to move into campus housing in the middle of the academic year must contact Disability Support Service at least six weeks before the start of the quarter for which they are requesting housing accommodations.
