Fine and Performing Arts (FPA) scholarships are renewable, four-year awards offered to incoming students who audition or interview. Endowed Theatre Scholarships are offered to returning students invested in SPU Theatre, and they require students to submit a new application each year.
SPU FPA Theatre Scholarship Requirements
The Theatre Department awards 10 or more $1,500 FPA Theatre scholarships each year. These are merit-based, non-need-based scholarships that are renewable up to four years based on a student's entry to SPU and are stackable with any other merit scholarship offered by the University.
Performance-based FPA Scholarships are awarded by audition, and production-based FPA scholarships are awarded by interview or portfolio review. Although all prospective students may apply, a theatre scholarship can be awarded only to students who have been admitted to SPU. Note that auditions are for theatre scholarships only; you are not required to audition for entry into the Theatre program.
Recipients must meet the following criteria each year to maintain their FPA Theatre scholarships:
- If you are a performance-based FPA scholarship recipient, you are required to audition for all SPU Theatre productions for each academic year that you are receiving a scholarship, maintain availability to be cast for each production, and accept casting if offered a role.
- If you are a production-based FPA scholarship recipient, you must participate in Production Practicum and be available for production crews each quarter of the academic year that you are receiving a scholarship.

SPU Endowed Theatre Scholarships
The Theatre Department also awards a number of Endowed Scholarships.
Established by generous donors to the theatre program, these Endowed Scholarships are awarded annually to current SPU Theatre students who are actively involved in department productions. Applications for consideration are distributed during Winter Quarter, and scholarships are awarded at the end of Spring Quarter.
All current Theatre students who will be returning the following academic year are encouraged to apply each year.
