SPU Welcomes New Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Dr. Sandra Richards Mayo from Azusa Pacific University has been named the new vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Seattle Pacific University. This new senior leadership position is part of SPU’s ongoing plan to strengthen diversity and reconciliation efforts on campus. She will begin her new role on July 1, 2017.
Richards Mayo is currently an associate professor and director of the doctoral program in educational leadership at Azusa Pacific University. Her academic and administrative roles have focused on social justice, diversity, and equity, and her scholarly work has explored historical perspectives on racial disparities. While at APU, she also served as associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Education, with primary responsibility for student academic support, curricular management, and faculty development.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Richards Mayo join us," says SPU President Dan Martin. “Her strong leadership skills and collaborative spirit gives us a strategic opportunity to continue and deepen our work of racial reconciliation into the core of University life.”
Richards Mayo says the new position of vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion represents SPU’s commitment to the ongoing work of reconciliation. “I am deeply honored to join the community as we set a vision forward to achieve greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in all that we do.”
