Modern Iraqi History

Alissa Walter, associate professor of history, will host a time for refreshments and discussion of her recent book, Contested City: Citizen Advocacy and Survival in Modern Baghdad. The book explores how ordinary residents of Baghdad survived periods of war, sanctions, and dictatorship during the tumultuous period from 1950 until the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq in 2011.The event is at 4:30 p.m. in the Ames Library on campus.

Choirs in Concert
Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025

Join the SPU Music Department and the Concert and Treble choirs for their winter concert. The free performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in First Free Methodist Church, adjacent to campus. Music faculty Beth Ann Bonnecroy and Ryan Ellis along with guest director Vanessa Bruce, gospel music composer and arranger, will direct the choirs in songs that celebrates life, resilience, hope, and faith.

"Field of Belonging"

The SPU Art Department is featuring a collection of works by artist May Kytone that examine identity, memory, and connection. From embroidered floor plans layered with Chinese lattice designs to wax-resist constellations, each piece serves as a space to explore questions of home, heritage, and belonging.

Percussion Ensemble Concert

The Percussion Ensemble will present their winter concert in the E.E. Bach Theater in McKinley Hall at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

A Different Kind of Business Competition 
Wednesday, April 16, 2025

This unique event is designed to encourage students from all majors to develop an entrepreneurial project that addresses dual bottom lines: social and financial. Participants tackle a felt social need while proposing a way to provide sustainable funding through a business activity. The public is invited to learn about the projects and vote for the "People's Choice" award.
