What is your current major and why did you choose it?
My current major is PPE with an emphasis in pre-law. I came to SPU intending to double major in business and political science because I wanted to study something “practical” in conjunction with my passion for political science. My advisor introduced me to the new PPE major that was still in the works and I immediately loved it. PPE felt like a degree specifically engineered for me because I wanted to develop analytical skills while retaining a deep interest in my classes. After taking courses in all three fields, I’ve learned how to critically think and approach everything in a variety of ways. I’ve always been interested in several things, and with PPE, I can pursue each of those different roads. My experiences interning with my Senator and at a law firm were greatly enriched because of the way my coursework has helped me to think. PPE is also the perfect pre-any graduate school degree and I look forward to what the future holds!
Why did you choose to study at Seattle Pacific University?
I chose to study at SPU for several reasons. I’ve always attended small private schools, and knew that the relationships a smaller school provides are endlessly valuable. At SPU, I’m able to be closely advised and be invested in by my professors that do not have to juggle hundreds of students. My faith is also central to who I am as a person, everything else depends upon it, and to be able to openly discuss that in the classroom and with classmates has been vital to my relationship with God. Though SPU was not my first choice, it has been the best choice for me in every aspect.
How have you been able to find community at Seattle Pacific University?
Community is one of SPU’s selling points! Though it can make a school feel small, the type of student that comes to SPU is someone who is there to invest in relationships. I can look around my classes and find a group of people in my major who I know personally, beyond the classroom. That has helped me find a sense of belonging at SPU since freshman year. Working as a student employee at the School of Business, Government, and Economics, I have also found a community of people I really respect, whether it is faculty, staff, or students. I have gleaned so much just from conversing with the people I’m surrounded by on a daily basis. SPU has become a place I’ve been able to be challenged at, find friends, and obtain confidence in.
