I didn’t begin my life at Seattle Pacific University the way most freshmen do. My senior year of high school flew by, and at the end of it I was ready and excited for college. I was planning on attending a different school in a completely different state.
Despite my initial excitement, after only a week I knew I didn’t belong there. So I did what any scared freshman would do — I called my mom. My parents were shocked, but understood what I was going through, and I knew I had their support. After some phone calls with friends and loved ones, and much debate, I decided to move back home.
Knowing I wanted to choose another university, and remembering SPU had offered me a scholarship, I called the Admissions Office at SPU. I was pleased to find out that my scholarship was still available, and I transferred to SPU soon after. The rest is history.
My choice to attend SPU was one made for a number of reasons, the biggest reason being that I knew it was a place I could call home. From the professors, to the students, to the atmosphere, SPU presents a strong community of people. I feel lucky to be here and to have made some great friendships here.
My decision to be a Communication major has been shaped since I was in high school. I knew I never wanted to work with numbers or scientific methods, but I have loved writing and talking since the day I learned how. That has truly been the fuel to fire my pursuit of the Communication major. When I heard that SPU had an outstanding Communication program, it only brightened the prospect of being a student here.
After I graduate, I hope to either work for a social media and marketing company or start my own. Currently, I write music reviews and blog posts, and I am also helping a few local businesses build their audiences through social media. That is something I would love to be able to continue in the years to come.
One professor who has made a great impact on me is Dr. Rendleman. He is a loving man who also loves what he does. His classes are always interesting, and he does everything he can to help you succeed. Dr. Rendleman is a great person to be around, and I would highly recommend him as a professor.
Overall, I am a very lucky guy to be able to attend a school like Seattle Pacific University. It is a school that provides a loving, growing community. I’ve truly been blessed to have made it here in the first place, and I know that here, at SPU, I am home.
